Equality for Troy
Open Lobby Campaign
Barker Park Speakout & Barbecue, August, 2020
Equality for Troy and Troy Foundry Theatre began partnering after the historic June 7th Protest in Troy, NY for Black Lives and Equality, and against police brutality and systemic racism. Since opening our doors for protestors at the historic Trojan Hotel on that day, we have partnered with Tasheca Medina and Equality for Troy on several outreach efforts and events in Downtown Troy’s Barker Park.
Equality for Troy’s mission is to combat systemic injustices and racial inequity in The City of Troy, NY and Rensselaer County through community outreach, education, advocacy and development. Troy Foundry Theatre works to support this mission.
Through our combined efforts, citizens of Barker Park have been offered seating, food, water, clothing, legal aid, harm reduction and outreach services, census registration and even haircuts!
We’ve also provided an artistic outlet for many residents, not only providing music and entertainment, but engaging the residents with creative activities.
In September, the Troy Free Store launched, a partnership between Equality for Troy and Troy Foundry Theatre. The Troy Free Store has been operating nearly every Wednesday in Bdker Park providing clothing and household goods to those that need it.
As we move into 2021, and we reflect on all the hardship we’ve endured, we also look forward to our burgeoning relationship with Equality for Troy and streghnening our bond with our community.
